When in Rio
When Portuguese navigators arrived at the Guanabara Bay at the beginning of the 16th Century, they experienced firsthand the pristine beauty of a land nestled between the Mantiqueira Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean: breathtaking views from cool mountains, transparent waters, and peaceful lagoons and marshes that provide a home to all types of wildlife.
Because they landed in this subtropical paradise in January, the explorers named this beautiful place Rio de Janeiro, the “January River.”
The natural scenery of the whole seaboard remains just as enchanting as when the Portuguese explorers first set eyes on Rio de Janeiro.
Rio de Janeiro is an important economic and cultural center of Brazil, and the “Wonder City” continues to be the main Brazilian tourist destination.

Due to the city’s proximity to the equator, Recife weather is generally warm. Recife has a number of islands, rivers, waterways and bridges that crisscross the city. Recife is located amidst tropical forests which are distinguished by high rainfall levels resulting in poor soil quality as the rainfall washes away the nutrients. There is an absence of extreme temperatures and a cool breeze due to the trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean.
