In Brazil, people love to celebrate. Whether it’s during Carnivale season or any other time of the year, you can always find a good time among Brazilians.
The national cocktail is the caipirinha. It’s made of a liquor made of fermented sugar cane, sugar, and lime. Also known as a “pinga” or “caninha”, it’s very sweet, very delicious and also very potent.
Like Long Island Iced Tea and other full-liquor drinks, with the caipirinha a little goes a long way. Take it easy when you are drinking these because they can easily sneak up on you. While some Brazilians may be accustomed to drinking these powerful drinks, you probably aren’t.
Be Friendly But Smart
When you are out enjoying Brazilian nightlife, you are certain to a lot of friendly, outgoing people. You can make new friends and have fun and still be cautious at the same time.
Don’t accept drinks from strangers. And make sure you use a registered taxi when it’s time to head back to your hotel.
If you find yourself in a situation that doesn’t make you comfortable, contact the local police. If you are in a bar or restaurant, ask to speak to the manager. They normally can help you regain control of the situation and resolve conflict.
